1. The Nursing Unit Manger leads a specific unit/area with the goal of promoting efficient and effective quality services to both external and internal customers. Their main role is to oversee patient care, set work schedules, arrange and coordinate meetings, be involved in management decision making and budgetary decisions, coaching and mentoring, and ensuring performance of staff are aligned with the goals and objectives of Fakeeh.care
2. Supports the Mission, Vision, Values of Fakeeh.care and Adheres to Fakeeh.care policies & Procedures
3. Ensures effective communication within the unit/department between nursing staff, patient and/or significant others along with inter and intradepartmental personnel
4. Ensures all directives from senior management are communicated to unit staff and monitors compliance after implementation
5. Acts as a resource to subordinates, interpreting philosophy, goals, standards, policies and procedures
6. Teaches staff and assure the implementation of effective admission/discharge planning in cooperation with admission staff and case managers
7. Escalates problems or issues in patient care timely
8. Makes frequent rounds in the unit to evaluate and assure that all patients receive quality nursing and medical care
9. Acts as liaison with the medical staff to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care
10. Investigates patient’s reports complaints, problems and concerns and implements any changes required in relation to
complaints
11. Plans adequate staffing cover for the unit as per recommended nurse-patient ratios and the unit scope of service and provides a balanced schedule. Assumes 24-hour responsibility of the unit
12. Demonstrates knowledge of key business concepts relevant to the healthcare function and is able to balance business needs with patient care priorities
13. Assist in establishing departmental budget that supports organizational goals without sacrificing quality care
14. Selects treatments from among approved options based on individual patient circumstances
15. Conducts training programs in related specialties
16. Evaluates the financial and clinical impact of new technologies or treatments
17. Measures unit performance against established standards; recommends process improvements
18. Gives feedback to CND and Practice Improvement staff regarding performance and areas for improvement
19. Monitors staff sickness, lateness and absenteeism and escalates issues timely
20. Leads effectively through change and supervises the operations of the assigned unit to meet the objectives of the hospital strategic priorities and nursing strategic plan
21. Evaluates the unit work performance and attributes of nursing personnel timely and prepares evaluations or reports and meets all deadlines. Provides constructive feedback
22. Maintains comprehensive performance / competency records on all assigned staff
23. Completes annual performance evaluation for staff and submits within established time frames, coaches, mentors, counsels and disciplines staff as required
24. M aintains a dignified professional association with personnel and the public
25. Responsible for timely administrative reports, memos and utilizing various types of electronic information systems
26. Trains nursing staff in ongoing new job responsibilities, Performance Measures, documentation requirements and mandatory training in collaboration with Professional and Practice improvement staff
27. Performs all required duties varying throughout the day to meet the needs of the patients and staffing
28. Orders, or directs ordering of drugs, solutions, and equipment, and maintains records on narcotics
29. Monitors patient care areas and other facilities for cleanliness and readiness
30. Monitors staff compliance with mandatory education requirements and develops performance improvement plan for any identified deficiencies
31. Monitors performance of new employees, ensuring all deadlines for completion of orientation, orientation checklists and competencies have been met. Ensures new employees, students and intern have allocated preceptor and learning opportunities
32. Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned
33. Plans and completes job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including using appropriate judgment
34. Searches and finds opportunities to develop own skills and knowledge that benefit the job requirements
35. When unable to meet deadlines, conveys needs and plan for corrective action to supervisor
36. Endorses responsibility and routine tasks to others
37. Is punctual for work, meetings, and appointments; when absent from work, informs CND and insures work assignments are completed
38. Identifies the outcome measure that aligns with the goal to demonstrate the improvement(s) (e.g., errors, incidents, satisfaction, clinical indicator) Using innovation, integration, and information links the quality management activities to business goals
39. Reviews periodically professional practice in terms of patient safety, competence and ethical care, recommends and applies necessary changes and updates
40. Complies with all Infection control practices guides and monitors staff to comply with the same
41. Promotes a culture of quality patient care and safety improvement and encourage quality improvement activities
42. Assures the implementation of a blame free atmosphere in the unit to improve and encourage variances reporting
43. E ncourages staff on peer support and review
44. Complies with the Magnet standards and assure their implementation with the CND’s
45. D emonstrates advocacy and support on behalf of staff and patients
46. U ses trended data to acquire necessary resources to support the care delivery
47. Supports and promotes autonomy through the organization’s governance structure for shared decision-making and
evidence based practices
48. Evaluates and improves workplace safety for nurses. Demonstrates understanding of hazardous materials plan
49. Participates in the organization- or system-wide approach focused on proactive risk assessment and error management
50. Involves Clinical nurses in the review, action planning, and evaluation of patient safety data at the unit level
51. Participates in the design and implementation of technology to enhance the patient experience and nursing practice
52. Demonstrates understanding of fire and emergency procedures, participates in fire and disaster drills
53. Demonstrates compassionate communication skills while providing support and care to the patients as “the patient is the center of our care
