JOB DUTIES STATEMENTS:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To perform the professional duties of a consultant Hematopathologist in accordance with the delineation of privileges as recommended by hospital policies and procedures which are approved by administration.
- Provides consultation service to physicians of other specialties.
- Provides technical direction and monitors the service activities to maintain quality control system and measures, to assure optimal accuracy, timeliness, safety for staff, patients and equipment.
- Develops and coordinates the Quality Management Program with Laboratory Department field-wide.
- Performs professional duties of a Hematopathologist and ensure correct, appropriate and reliable results within the assigned turn-around time.
- Keeps informed as to current developments in the field of Hematopathology and keeps the service staff up to date on these development through group discussion, lectures and in-service training.
- Collaborates with other departmental personnel in planning programs, integrating the curative and preventive aspects of total patient care. Is responsible for the operation of approved diagnostic preventive programs related to Hematopathology.
- Determines which tests and related services / procedures are proper to undertake and when new techniques are to be utilized and assure availability of special equipment and supplies, also check regularly maintenance problems and activities in his area.
- Monitors or provides for training of the service personnel on the job instruction, demonstration personally the work necessary to train, recommending in-service programs or other developmental activities.
- Develops or approves all written policies and procedures for the service, including those related to ordering of tests, precaution, proper identifications, storage and preservation of specimens, and is responsible for required records and reports.
- Recommends and maintains cost standards for the division in Coordination with administration guidance by monitoring and eliminating excessive use of labor, materials and services.
- Carry managerial responsibility for the work of the Hematopathology section, including responsibility for the sectional budget and evaluation of the staff in these sections.
- Perform the needed statistics and performance indicators of his / her section according to the hospital needs.
- Participates in hospital committee as assigned.
- Keeps confidentiality of the patients and does not provide any information about patients unless authorized according
to hospital policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job.
- Responsible of quality improvement in his / her section, supervise and coordinate any accreditation process related to the laboratory either for the hospital in general e.g. JCI, ACHSI , CBAHI or specific lab accreditation, e.g. CAP, AABB.
- The Blood Bank hematopathology consultant oversight of all blood bank and transfusion services that ensures laws, regulations and high quality standards of practice.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job. a. Blood screening of disease and Nucleic Acid Amplification Test
b. Blood collection (Random and Apheresis collection)
c. Blood storage
d. Pre transfusion and Compatibility testing e. Blood distribution
f. Therapeutic apheresis
- Demonstrates compassionate communication skills while providing support and care to the patients as “the patient is the center of our care”.
- Bachelor degree in Medicine & Surgery. MD in Histopathology and/or Clinical .Pathology or Equivalent with sub-specialty in Hematological Pathology
- 5 years of experience after getting his degree or equivalent.
